Authored by Charles Hugh Smith via OfTwoMinds blog, Simply put, people are moving not just to escape unaffordable housing and high taxes. They're moving to escape fiscally irresponsible, ineffective, unaccountable governance. Defenders of high state taxes like to point out that surveys find few high-net-worth households move primarily to lower their tax bills. This may be so, but it misses the point: high-income, high-net-worth households don't move away from high tax states if they're getting fair value for their taxes. But if services and infrastructure are crumbling around them even as their taxes keep ratcheting higher, then the benefits of moving become much more compelling. In other words, if you're getting good value for your...

Days ago Facebook, which is now Meta, announced it is welcoming Ukraine's Azov Regiment to its platform. Azov had up until recently, and throughout the Russian invasion of Ukraine, been on Meta's of "dangerous organizations" list. It was on this banned list because the militia's members regularly display Nazi symbols and signs on their uniforms and as part of the their media content. But now, pro-Azov content can be freely posted, and the group can create its own official accounts on Facebook and Instagram for the first time. The following is an excerpt from the book, ‘The Bodies of Others: The New Authoritarians, COVID-19 and The War Against the Human’ by Naomi Wolf, made exclusively available in India to The Sunday Guardian. A NOTE FROM THE PUBLISHER From the very start of the Covid-19 pandemic, Dr Naomi Wolf said the response would prove to be one of the great crimes against humanity. She was ridiculed, called anti-science, called anti-vaccine, but with each passing day she is more and more vindicated. Covid vaccine injuries can no longer be denied. Locking down our economy at the expense of the next generation is now widely acknowledged as an almost irrecoverable mistake. In Dr Naomi Wolf’s bestselling book, “The Bodies of Others”, she makes clear...
House Republicans are planning to try to open up Democrats' $740 billion tax, climate and health care bill to a legal challenge after it passes, Axios has learned. Why it matters: The move is Republicans' way of showing their base that they're going to great lengths to kill the legislation, which is likely to be unanimously opposed by House Republicans. "I would be shocked if anybody [in the GOP] voted for it," said Rep. Drew Ferguson (R-Ga.), the House Republican chief deputy whip. Driving the news: Republicans, led by members of the right-wing House Freedom Caucus, plan to get "as many members as possible to vote by proxy" in order to deny Democrats a physical quorum, two senior Republican aides told Axios. The bill would...
The only demonstrable evidence of Russian interference in U.S. politics came quietly out of the U.S. Department of Justice today, with the unsealing of an indictment charging a Russian national with “orchestrating a years-long foreign malign influence campaign that used various U.S. political groups to sow discord, spread pro-Russian propaganda, and interfere in elections within the United States.” The New York Times report on the subject buries the names of the groups allegedly utilized by the Russian government in the scheme, namely the “Uhuru Movement” of St. Petersburg, Florida, which is part of a wider entity known as the African People’s Socialist Party. Joe Biden’s Department of Justice (DOJ) alleges that from “at least...
NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) — More than 20 Republican attorneys general filed a lawsuit Tuesday against President Joe Biden's administration over a Department of Agriculture school meal program that prohibits discrimination based on sexual orientation and gender identity. The challenge, led by Tennessee Attorney General Herbert Slatery, claims that the federal government is attempting to force states and schools to follow antidiscrimination requirements that “misconstrue the law.” The coalition of attorneys general are hoping for a similar result to a separate challenge from earlier this month when a Tennessee judge temporarily barred two federal agencies from enforcing directives issued by Biden's administration that extended protections...

Verizon is set to drop the right-wing One America News Network (OAN) from its channel lineup after the network and company failed to reach an agreement on a new contract. Verizon said in a statement to The Hill that it will no longer have the rights to OAN after July 31, and the network will be removed from the television lineup. “Our negotiation with OAN has been a typical, business as usual carriage negotiation like those that routinely happen between content distributors and content providers,” the statement reads. Verizon said that the negotiations were based on economic considerations and that OAN did not agree to “fair terms.” “Our company has long advocated for providing customers with the ability to choose what content...
